I have visited this spa on two occasions and had two very different experiences. The first time was very pleasant and relaxing. Great service (except for the front desk lady who is not welcoming at all), quiet spa, excellent massage, nice atmosphere and service at the pool. The second time, this past week, was very different. At check in, I was given a robe that had two massive holes in it from ripped fabric. Then, the behavior of other guests in the spa was appalling. One guy was taking a 30 minute phone call at full volume while in the mens hot tub. Rather than using the locker room he decided to keep his hat, shoes, shirt, phone and wallet sitting on the tiles next to the hot tub like it was his own personal storage space. Meanwhile this other guy was loudly complaining how hot the steam room was and how it was too steamy for him, holding the door open and waving the steam out the door... Another guest and I were enjoying the steam. How entitled do you have to be to think that's okay to do?? These are grown men were acting like entitled children, disturbing myself and another guest. Both of us were in shock to see them behaving this way. Also about an hour later the steam room stopped working entirely. The spa also ran out of their "signature" lemongrass aromatherapy cubes for the showers and there was a massive pile of towels overflowing the basket in the men's locker room. The massage was great though. Those ladies deserve recognition, they did a fantastic job. Finally, after my massage, around 4:50, I went down to the pool to soak in the mineral tub and I come to find out that the pool has been locked up and is closed. They aren't supposed to close until 5:30. I then see the front desk lady walking out, finished with her shift for the day. At this point it's maybe 5:10. Still not supposed to be closed. She leaves the desk completely unattended. Too bad because I wanted to purchase some things from the gift shop but I guess they decided to close up early. Next time, I will find another spa. The experience here is nowhere close to being worth the price.
I cannot think of a better way to spend the day, this spa was impeccable in nearly every way. We were greeted and shown around the spa and offered water upon entry. The men & women are totally separated, except for the sort of relaxation area setup outside the two locker rooms, which is open below to the front desk area. The locker rooms are kept neat & tidy, and offer steam room, sauna, showers, hot tub & cold plunge (42 degrees 🥶). There’s enough to do here for probably 45 minutes - 1 hour. We were unable to use the outdoor area as it was a windy, rainy day. We will be back for that, however! My wife and I got the facial treatments, and both very much enjoyed them. This couple with the amenities of the spa, really makes it a great place to enjoy at least a few hours. Had we been able to use the outdoor area we most certainly would have stayed longer. Overall they create a very relaxing atmosphere with plenty of service. There are many restaurants in the grounds to get a bite before or after. The beach area is large and full of lounge chairs. With a spa appointment you are able to enjoy the facilities all day and also join yoga on the beach, you can also come and go as you please.
I’ve been dealing with severe shoulder pain for quite a while and had already seen both a chiropractor and another massage therapist without much relief. Jorge was the first person who actually identified the source of the problem and treated it correctly. I walked away feeling a difference immediately. He is, without question, the best massage therapist I’ve ever seen in my life. He’s incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and charismatic, and he truly cares about helping his clients feel better. If you’re booking a massage at the JW, do yourself a favor and request Jorge. The JW is incredibly lucky to have someone with his level of skill and professionalism. I can’t recommend him highly enough!
The experience itself was fine…however, getting an appointment is a nightmare. They don’t answer the phone, and when you leave a message and they finally call you back, they tell to try and book online or call back (but THEY DON’T ANSWER). And, when you get online, it’s hard to book for 2 reasons: 1. I need gel removal added to the appointment…so, they tell you call for that, but again, nobody answers. 2. Every time I try to book a mani and pedi…somehow, the computer can’t give back-to-back appointments. There is always a one hour gap in between. And, I mentioned that to them before, and they don’t know why that always happens. So, they always tell me, it’s best to call. Anyway, it’s aggravating and they don’t seem to care. So, from now on, I will just go somewhere else.
I could not have had a better day, I started off having my facial with Madelyn, which was the best facial I’ve ever had! Then I made my way to the pool and had the best panini with friendly service. After a full day at the spa pool I made my way to the thermal spa. Overall it was such a great experience, I’m a local so I will definitely be back, the only suggestion is adding face sunscreen in the bathrooms near the pool/fitness center.
